Around 53 Mount Everest climbers from Nepal and China were honored in Beijing during the Nepal-China Sagarmatha (Mount Everest) Adventure Festival, an event organized by the Embassy of Nepal in China to commemorate the 73rd Sagarmatha Day. The festival aimed to promote Nepal’s mountain tourism industry while strengthening tourism cooperation and people-to-people ties between Nepal and China.
The honored climbers included 24 Nepali and 29 Chinese mountaineers who successfully summited Mount Everest. Among those recognized was Nepali federal lawmaker and renowned mountaineer Mingma Gyabu Sherpa. Certificates of appreciation were presented by former Deputy Speaker Indira Rana Magar and Nepal’s Charge d’Affaires in China, Roshan Khanal.
Speaking at the event, Roshan Khanal highlighted the significance of Mount Everest as a symbol of adventure and emphasized Nepal’s position as a global hub for mountaineering tourism. She noted that the festival would help enhance cooperation between tourism and mountaineering entrepreneurs from both countries while strengthening bilateral relations.
The program featured presentations on mountaineering experiences, tourism promotion sessions, a photo exhibition showcasing Nepal’s Himalayan attractions, and networking opportunities for tourism entrepreneurs from Nepal and China. These activities were designed to encourage greater collaboration in adventure tourism and attract more international visitors to Nepal.
In a video message, Nepal’s Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Khadak Raj Paudel, stressed the importance of protecting mountains for the future of humanity and called for collective efforts to preserve the Himalayan environment.
The Nepal-China Sagarmatha Adventure Festival reflects the growing partnership between the two neighboring countries in promoting sustainable mountain tourism and celebrating the shared mountaineering heritage linked to the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest. The event also highlights Nepal’s ongoing efforts to position itself as a premier destination for adventure travelers and mountaineers from around the world.
